The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of the Christian Faith.

As the Apostle Paul stated, “If Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins” (1 Corinthians 15:17). Christianity is NOT blind faith!  Dr. Greenleaf, the Royal Professor of Law at Harvard University, was one of the greatest legal minds that ever lived. He wrote the famous legal volume entitled, A Treatise on the Law of Evidence, considered by many the greatest legal volume ever written. Dr. Simon Greenleaf believed the Resurrection of Jesus Christ was a hoax. And he determined, once and for all, to expose the “myth” of the Resurrection. After thoroughly examining the evidence for the resurrection — Dr. Greenleaf came to the exact opposite conclusion! He wrote a book entitled, An Examination of the Testimony of the Four Evangelists by the Rules of Evidence Administered in the Courts of Justice. In which he emphatically stated:

“it was IMPOSSIBLE that the apostles could have persisted in affirming the truths they had narrated, had not JESUS CHRIST ACTUALLY RISEN FROM THE DEAD, . . .”

The Bible or The Bible Series

Many of you have asked my opinion of the History channels mini-series, The Bible.  Well, I haven’t watched it in its entirety…only seen a few portions on the web.I have looked into the producers of the show. Roma Downey has some serious theological hurdles to overcome coming from a Roman Catholic background and being schooled in the University of Santa Monica, a private graduate school founded by New Age spiritual and self-help guru John-Roger. She apparently will graduate with a master’s degree in spiritual psychology in June.  Spiritual pyschology??? From a New Age self-help guru???  Hmmmm….that is very disturbing indeed. In other news, the theological advisors for the film are a train wreck waiting to happen.  In fact, there is such a Smorgasbord of theological positioning that those consulted make up the ingredients for a perfectly poisonous ecumenical stew. Let me see…the ingedients are…
  • 1 cup of Joel Osteen’s self-help name it and claim it mantra
  • 1 quart of Rick Warren’s no doctrine needed purpose driven drival
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Erwin Macmanus’s emergent mysticism
  • 2 pinches of Tom Peterson’s “come home to Rome” New Evangelization
  • and a few dashes of Groeschel, Gabe Lyons, and Samuel Rodriguez.

HERMANEUTICS: The process of trying to understand what the Bible means.

Remember…the Bible is God’s Word to us! It is written so that we can understand it. But, there is a right way and a wrong way to study the Word of God.

Right Way To Study: EXEGESIS-drawing ideas OUT OF the Bible text

Wrong Way To Study: EISEGESIS-reading our ideas INTO the Bible text

Bible Study Guidelines:

OBSERVATION: What does it say?
Who? What? Where? Why? When? How?

INTERPRETATION: What does it mean?
NOT, “what does it mean to ME!”

APPLICATION: How do I respond?
Ask, “What does God want me to CHANGE in my life?”

If the Plain sense makes good sense then seek no other sense!

You better believe it!  This “NEW SPIRITUALITY” (which is really not new because it finds its origin in the garden of Eden when Satan deceived Adam & Eve) has creeped into the church.  This should not surprise true Christ-followers however, because the Holy Scriptures fortold these very things…

“For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.
Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds.”   2 Corinthians 11:13-14
