Purpose Driven Division…
Has Purpose Driven invaded your church? I joined Eric Barger on Take A Stand! TV to discuss coming out of the Purpose Driven philosophy.

In Christ…Before & After

BEFORE I WAS SAVED

For we also once were foolish ourselves, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various lusts and pleasures, spending our life in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another. BUT when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.  Titus 3:3-7

Matthew 7:13 – on the broad road

Ephesians 2:3 – I was a child of wrath

Romans 3:10, 3:23 – Not righteous, a sinner that falls short of God

Romans 6:23 – deserving of death

BUT NOW THAT I AM SAVED IN CHRIST I AM

 A NEW CREATION

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.                                                                                                                                                                            2 Corinthians 5:17

I am a SAINT

To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, saints by calling, with all who in every place call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours…  1 Cor. 1:2

I am part of God’s HOUSEHOLD, the CHURCH… Eph 2:19-22

I have been BLESSED by God, CHOSEN by God, PREDESTINED by God, ADOPTED by God, BESTOWED with GRACE by God… Ephesians 1:3-8

CLOSING THOUGHTS…

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.                                                                                                                                                  2 Corinthians 5:17

Of this church I was made a minister according to the stewardship from God bestowed on me for your benefit, so that I might fully carry out the preaching of the word of God, that is, the mystery which has been hidden from the past ages and generations, but has now been manifested to His saints, to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Colossians 1:25–27

Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.   Colossians 3:1-3

J. C. Ryle on the Symptoms of False Teachers & Teachings

JC Ryle

Over 100 years ago, J.C. Ryle shared a list that focused on symptoms of false teaching that still has tremendous relevance for the church today.

“Many things combine to make the present inroad of false doctrine peculiarly dangerous.

1. There is an undeniable zeal in some of the teachers of error: their “earnestness” makes many think they must be right.

2. There is a great appearance of learning and theological knowledge: many fancy that such clever and intellectual men must surely be safe guides.

3. There is a general tendency to free thought and free inquiry in these latter days: many like to prove their independence of judgment, by believing novelties.

4. There is a wide-spread desire to appear charitable and liberal-minded: many seem half ashamed of saying that anybody can be in the wrong.

5. There is a quantity of half-truth taught by the modern false teachers: they are incessantly using Scriptural terms and phrases in an unscriptural sense.

6. There is a morbid craving in the public mind for a more sensuous, ceremonial, sensational, showy worship: men are impatient of inward, invisible heart-work.

7. There is a silly readiness in every direction to believe everybody who talks cleverly, lovingly and earnestly, and a determination to forget that Satan often masquerades himself “as an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14).

8. There is a wide-spread “gullibility” among professing Christians: every heretic who tells his story plausibly is sure to be believed, and everybody who doubts him is called a persecutor and a narrow-minded man.

All these things are peculiar symptoms of our times. I defy any observing person to deny them. They tend to make the assaults of false doctrine in our day peculiarly dangerous. They make it more than ever needful to cry aloud, “Do not be carried away!””

Christianity & Religion…Not Necessarily The Same

There is a great difference between dead, empty RELIGION and CHRISTIANITY. Religion may very well include attending a “Christian” church, but that does not equate Christianity.  For our purposes here, I am trying to communicate that a person may very well be religious, but may, in fact, “miss the boat” when it comes to salvation. While Christianity would certainly be considered a religion, it is to be distinguished as the religion of religions…the Chief of religions…because it is the true religion (James 1:26-27). Christianity is more than following a predetermined set of rules, more than attending a Church building on a given day of the week, and more than having your name on a church role.  You see, many are GOING TO CHURCH but few are GOING DOWN THE ROAD WHICH LEADS TO LIFE (Matt 7:13-14).  There are many that  name the Name of Christ (2 Tim. 2:19) and claim to be Christians, but few that understand what a Christian really is. Many are RELIGIOUS, but few are RIGHT WITH GOD.

The following distinctions may be helpful to you in distinguishing dead, empty Religion and Biblical Christianity: Read more…
