SO HOW DO YOU PROVE THE RESURRECTION HAPPENED? part 2

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is of utmost importance!
The apostle Paul said, “and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain. 15 Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we testified against God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised; 17 and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied.” 1 Corinthians 15:14-19

If the resurrection did not happen, the apostles were liars, our faith is futile, we are still lost in our sins, the dead in Christ have simply perished, and everyone who has ever hoped in Christ is to be pitied above all men.  The resurrection of Jesus is important indeed.  Because of this,  it has been met with vehement opposition through the years.  Many alternative theories have been put forth to explain away the resurrection of Jesus Christ. These theories, however, simply do not hold water.

Here are the most common alternate theories given by critics: Read more…

3 Simple Rules For Listening to a Sermon

Had to share this from our dear bearded friend, J.C. Ryle…

3 Simple Rules For Listening to a Sermon

It is not enough that we go to Church and hear sermons. We may do so for fifty years, and be nothing better, but rather worse. “Take heed,” says our Lord, “how you hear.” Would any one know how to hear properly? Then let them lay to heart three simple rules.

1) We must hear with FAITH, believing implicitly that every word of God is true, and shall stand. The word in old time did not profit the Jews, since it was “not mixed with faith in those who heard it” (Heb. 4:2).

2) We must hear with REVERENCE, remembering constantly that the Bible is the book of God. This was the habit of the Thessalonians. They received Paul’s message, “not as the word of men, but the word of God” (1 Thess. 2:13).

3) We must bear with PRAYER, praying for God’s blessing before the sermon is preached, praying for God’s blessing again when the sermon is over. Here lies the grand defect of the hearing of many. They ask no blessing, and so they have none. The sermon passes through their minds like water through a leaky vessel, and leaves nothing behind.

Summary:

Let us bear these rules in mind every Sunday morning, before we go to hear the Word of God preached. Let us not rush into God’s presence careless, reckless, and unprepared, as if it mattered not in what way such work was done. Let us carry with us faith, reverence, and prayer. If these three are our companions, we will hear with profit, and return with praise.

In Christ…Before & After

BEFORE I WAS SAVED

For we also once were foolish ourselves, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various lusts and pleasures, spending our life in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another. BUT when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.  Titus 3:3-7

Matthew 7:13 – on the broad road

Ephesians 2:3 – I was a child of wrath

Romans 3:10, 3:23 – Not righteous, a sinner that falls short of God

Romans 6:23 – deserving of death

BUT NOW THAT I AM SAVED IN CHRIST I AM

 A NEW CREATION

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.                                                                                                                                                                            2 Corinthians 5:17

I am a SAINT

To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, saints by calling, with all who in every place call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours…  1 Cor. 1:2

I am part of God’s HOUSEHOLD, the CHURCH… Eph 2:19-22

I have been BLESSED by God, CHOSEN by God, PREDESTINED by God, ADOPTED by God, BESTOWED with GRACE by God… Ephesians 1:3-8

CLOSING THOUGHTS…

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.                                                                                                                                                  2 Corinthians 5:17

Of this church I was made a minister according to the stewardship from God bestowed on me for your benefit, so that I might fully carry out the preaching of the word of God, that is, the mystery which has been hidden from the past ages and generations, but has now been manifested to His saints, to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Colossians 1:25–27

Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.   Colossians 3:1-3
